Italo Tropea - RN Rome

For Italo, the boarding on a ship of the Regia Marina was short and glorious: it began on April 15, 1943 in La Spezia on the battleship Roma, the most beautiful and most modern of the three 35,000 t battleships. smaller units, to get to know the hardness of the struggle on the sea that the Italian Navy had been enduring for over three years now. It ended with the sacrifice of the ship and of his own life on the afternoon of 9 September 1943, when the new enemy successfully tested the bombs guided by airplanes on the flagship. His fighting post was the machine gunner SDT where he was at the moment of the lethal impact of the second bomb.
