Armando Gotelli - RN Rome
I remember with acute nostalgia and affection the slender figure of "Signorino Armando", with his gentle manner and perfect education, my old schoolmate at the Elementary School of La Spezia and later found in the Naval Academy. His service on board was short: he embarked on the battleship Roma on April 15, 1943 and immolated himself with the ship, which was shot to death on September 9, 1943, in the waters of the Gulf of Asinara,
Of him, Arturo Catalano Gonzaga reported in his deposition to the Commission of Inquiry on the accident with these words: "I remember that the lookout staff remained in their posts under the orders of GM Gotelli in the stations surrounding the tower, until I saw them disappear in the flames ".
